Transferring portable projects between computers

Postby Ian Cameron » Wed May 06, 2009 11:55 pm

In PJ Remix 1.22 and later, you can transfer projects between computers by doing the following:

1. Go to the File menu and choose Browse Existing Projects.
2. Select the client to transfer, then go to the File menu again and choose "Move Project To...". This will place a .pjx folder in the location that you choose.
3. On the destination computer, go to the File menu and choose "Open Project", then select the .pjx folder to import.

Please note that the "Move Project To..." option will move the project folder to the new location that you specify. If you want to keep it in the original location, you can copy the .pjx folder directly from where it's saved. By default, PJ Remix saves client work in the following locations:

-On Mac OSX, it saves to Mac HD:Users:Shared:Photojunction: (where Mac HD is your main hard drive).
-On Windows XP, it saves to C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Photojunction\
-On Windows Vista, it saves to C:\ProgramData\Photojunction\

If you're using PJ Remix 1.21 or earlier, we highly recommend updating to the latest release of PJ Remix. You can get the latest update from here if required.

In PJ Remix 1.27 and later, the "Open Project" option is now called "Import Project". Aside from this, the function works in exactly the same way as in PJ Remix 1.25.

I am running PJ Remix 1.37 on two computers, both running Windows XP.

I have designed an album layout on one computer, and now need to transfer it to another for final editing. When I open Remix, this project appears six times on the Recent Projects list. If I open the File menu, "Browse Existing Projects" and "Move Project" are greyed out.

There is no Application Data folder under C:\Documents & Settings\All Users

Any idea where I can find the .pjx file for this project, so I can move it to the second computer?

Thanks

Hi Peter,

A new feature that you can use to locate a project is to right-click on the client name in the Browse section and choose Show in Finder (on Mac) or Open File Location (on Windows). This will open the folder containing the project folder.

With regard to the Application Data folder being hidden, this happens by default on Windows PCs. You can show hidden files as follows:

1. In My Computer, go to the Tools menu and choose Folder and Search Options.
2. Click on the View tab.
3. Check "Show hidden files and folders", then click OK.
